Fish for All Research and Training Centre of MSSRF has been selected as a Cluster Based Business Organization (CBBO) for Formation and Promotion of Fish Farmer Producer Organization (FFPO) by National Fisheries Development Board, Hyderabad under PMMSY Central Sector Scheme in the allocated State and UT.
A total of three FFPO’s are being formed and promoted in Mayiladuthurai and Nagapattinam district of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry UT.In Mayiladuthurai district two FFPO are being formed, one FFPO is 100% women fishers. The collective action of these women through the FFPO will open up opportunities for commercialization of their fish products. The other FFPO being formed in Mayiladuthurai district is the Fish farmer’s FFPO.
As a part of this initiative,a stakeholder’s consultation was held on May 05, 2023 at Fish for All Research and Training Centre, to understand the business opportunities, market potential for fishers to promote FFPO in Mayiladuthurai district.
District Collector, Thiru. A P Mahabharathi IAS was the chief guest of the event. In his special address, DC highlightedthe significance of promoting FFPO for collective action for the production and marketing of fish products in the district. He appreciated the research activities of Fish ForAllcentre that extensively supports the livelihood enhancement of fishing community.
In this event, 10 lakhs worth fish feed and cast nets were distributed to 100 fish famers of Mayiladuthurai district by the DC which was implemented by MSSRF in collaboration with ICAR- National Bureau of Fish Genetic Resources, Lucknow, under its Scheduled Caste Sub plan scheme.
Dr. S Velvizhi, Head, Fish ForAll Centre explained in detail the programs of the centre and the future functioning of the CBBO-FFPO and the available business opportunities. Thiru. Rajesh Kumar, Assistant Director of Fisheries, Thiru. Muthusamy, Lead District Manager, IOB, Mayiladuthurai, Thiru. R Rajaram, Assistant Engineer, Agriculture Engineering Department, Mayiladuthurai, Thiru. Nishanth, Branch Manager, IOB, Kaveripoompattinam, MSSRF team and more than 100 fishers participated in the event.
