PRESS RELEASE
As you are aware, International Women’s Day is observed every year on the 8th of March. The UN theme for IWD this year is: DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality. This theme is aligned with the priority theme for the upcoming 67th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW-67) – ‘Innovation and technological change, and education in the digital age for achieving gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls’.
At MSSRF, we are working towards accelerating gender equality with our digital and technological innovations for farmers and fishing communities. Women’s economic and social empowerment, resilience-building to reduce losses arising from environmental damage, finding pioneering solutions to reduce drudgery for women, and empowering women to hold leadership positions – such interventions have always been a steady stream of work across all our centres and site offices.
On Tuesday March 7th, we strengthen our resolve not just towards gender equality, but gender equity as well. We will listen to rural and fisher women speak about their experiences with digital tools and how these technologies have helped them feel empowered, also equal to men. The programme schedule is here.
