MSSRF’s Fish for All Research Centre at Poompuhar has organized a career guidance programme for class 11 and 12 students of coastal districts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry on May 26, 2023.   

Organised through the village resource centre programme, the aim of the initiative was to guide the students of fisherfolk about prospective courses in marine and fisheries University and other institutions.  More than 200 students with parents joined the session from 8 coastal districts of Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry.

Dr.G.N. Hariharan, Executive Director, MSSRF inaugurated the session. Dr.S.Velvizhi, Head, Fish For All Research Centre spoke about the importance of the programme. Experts from Indian Coast Guard, Tamil Nadu,  Dr.J.Jayalalitha Fisheries University (TNJFU), Centre of Advanced Study in Marine Biology, Annamalai University, School of Marine Sciences, Alagappa University and Central Institute of Fisheries Nautical and Engineering Training (CIFNET) guided the students on various courses in marine, coastal and fisheries colleges. Other career opportunities in Government and private sectors were also discussed. Lead Bank Manager, IOB, Mayiladuthurai detailed the procedure for availing education loan to the students.
