Known as the ‘Father of Nutrition Research in India’, Dr C Gopalan was the former Director-General of Indian Council of Medical Research, and Director National Institute of Nutrition. He started the National Nutrition Monitoring Bureau that made immense contributions to nutrition research in India. Dr Gopalan passed away on October 3, 2019, at the age of 101.

To honour Dr Gopalan, a Memorial Lecture was instituted in his name by Prof M S Swaminathan, Founder MSSRF, in the year 2020.

This year 2023, Dr. Vinod Kumar Paul Member, NITI Aayog, Government of India will deliver the keynote address on Monday August 07, and the session will be Chaired by Ms. Elisabeth Faure, Representative and Country Director of UN World Food Programme, India, during the International Conference on Mighty Millets for Food, Nutrition, and Health Security from August 6-8, 2023.
