M.S. Swaminathan Research Foundation (MSSRF) has recently undertaken a study on the multiple impacts of climate change on women and children across India’s 20 agro-ecological zones.
The executive summary of the report was released Ms. Smriti Zubin Irani, Hon’ble Union Minister for Women & Child Development and Minority Affairs, GoI at the Safeguarding Women & Children from the Impact of Climate Change event organised by Karmannya Counsel and ASSOCHAM on Friday, 8th March 2024 in New Delhi.
The event was well attended by Industry leaders, Academicians, researchers, policy makers, representatives from the International organisations, media representatives, civil society members and other key stakeholders.
Post the report release, a short presentation was made by Dr Soumya Swaminathan on the main findings. Hon’ble Minister then addressed the audience and highlighted the importance of this issue and the need for India to find its own solutions to our climate hazards across various agro-ecological zones. A panel discussion was then moderated by Dr. Soumya Swaminathan including Dr. Amarjeet Sinha, Member, Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) & Former Advisor to the Prime Minister, Dr. Sunita Narain, Director General, Centre for Science and Environment, Dr. Mahaveer Golechha, Professor and Head, Department of Health Policy, Management and Behavioural Science, Indian Institute of Public Health-Gandhinagar, Dr. Aakash Shrivastava, Additional Director, NPCCHH Division (National Programme on Climate Change and Human Health), NCDC (National Centre for Disease Control), Mr. Ravi Bhatnagar, Co-Chairperson, ASSOCHAM CSR & Empowerment Councils and Director, External Affairs and Partnerships, South Asia, Reckitt and Ms. Archana Jahagirdar, Managing Partner, Rukam Capital.
