This is an issue of reminiscences and gratitude. We held a special condolence meeting on the life and contributions of one of our Founder-Trustees Prof V L Chopra whose work inspired scientists, practitioners and students. Also featured in this edition, are a special trip down memory lane by Prof Swaminathan on the genesis of MSSRF and the release of a manual on early childhood care dedicated to Mrs Mina Swaminathan. We'd love to hear your stories of association with us.
DownloadWe were thrilled to hear the announcement of the World Food Prize for 2020 to Dr Rattan Lal, for his lifetime of work as a soil scientist. MSSRF had the good fortune to benefit from his expertise as a partner through Ohio State University. It was also heartening for us to find eight librarians from the INELI network that we lead across south Asia, featured in a global 'wall of fame' for their innovative work.
DownloadA small intervention such as anticipating pest/disease attacks in agriculture, can make a big difference to smallholder farms. We focus this week on our work in Assam - building RESILIENCE - among farming communities through support of NIBIO and in partnership with IWMI and Assam Agricultural University and the rural communities of Sivasagar and Golaghat.
DownloadIn this issue we bring updates about new research from our Biotechnology team - that works on research to address issues related to climate change and increasing soil salinity. Out now, published research from a multi-country partnership studying salt tolerance in a unique wild rice species. Also published a new study on community response to disasters. As the nation mourns the passing away of former President Shri Pranab Mukherjee, we also recall his direction to the scientific community.
DownloadOver the past two weeks, we had a flurry of online activity around our annual conference, that many of you attended. It brought rich churning of expertise in speakers and delegates. The Virtual Consultation on ‘Science for Resilient Food, Nutrition and Livelihoods: Contemporary Challenges’ on August 7, 8 & 10 has been summarized in this special edition of our e-Synergy. We invite you to share your inputs as we consolidate the conference outcomes for policy recommendations.
DownloadNew leadership on board, gearing up for our Annual Conference in August (yes, it's that time of year), an award for our work with tribal communities and more - there's lots in this issue of our newsletter! More details will be shared about our Foundation Day and Annual Conference.
Download'Operation Unlock' is underway in India and many parts of the world as people are regrouping and taking steps to recover from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. We reassess what needs to be done for rural revival and share our recommendations. Meanwhile research for development continues as we partner communities and diverse stakeholders for innovations in three key areas water, nutrition and the environment, with a gender-sensitive approach.
