World Population Day: Prof M S Swaminathan

July 11, 2020: French Philosopher Marquis De Condorcet (1795) said “Population will stabilise itself, if children are born for happiness and not for mere existence”. This contemporary of Malthus emphasized that population will get limited if children are born for happiness. Happy children should be the goal of human development. I hope on this day this message will be remembered in order to facilitate the spread of happiness.  Ours society is characterized by pluralism. What we should do is to make diversity a blessing and not a cause for conflict and confrontation. We should set up in every Panchayat a social democratic council which will ensure that happiness is shared by everyone in the community.
