This is the story about the Ragi/mandia cultivation by women farmers in Machhara village in koraput district who are primarily doing subsistence farming. They had been practicing traditional agricultural practices for the cultivation of millets and the level of productivity was very low. MSSRF have studied the causes of low productivity and promoted new agricultural technologies. As a result, the farmers harvested higher yield by three times compared to previous years and better income as well. The experienced farmers are sharing their experience with other farmers. The area is totally a rainfed area and farmers expressed the need for access to small scale irrigation and agricultural implements to address the labour shortage in the household.
