In the passing away of Shri Pranab Mukherjee on 31 August 2020, we have lost one of the greatest Indian visionaries and nation builders of our country. Shri Pranab Mukherjee devoted all his time and rich experience to make our country a nation of healthy and happy individuals. He served the country in different important capacities including Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission, Commerce Minister, Finance Minister and finally the President of India. In every one of these position, he left his footprint on the sands of time. For those working in the M S Swaminathan Research Foundation, he was particularly a guide and role model. He visited the Foundation specially to declare the state of Kerala as a Globally Important Agricultural Heritage Site. He also inaugurated the Indian Youth Science Congress (6 December 2013) at Visva Bharati, Shantiniketan. He took this occasion to inspire young scientists and scholars on the need for adopting in practical life the following message of Guru Rabindranath Tagore:
“A candle which is not lit, cannot light others
A teacher who is also not learning, cannot teach others”
The country has lost a great visionary who worked to uplift India by following the advice of the former King of Bhutan viz., true education ends in happiness and Biohappiness is the pathway to integrate happiness with economic progress and social wellbeing.
