Boothalingam Library   

About Library

The Boothalingam Library was established on January 6, 1994 opened by Mathuram Boothalingam. The primary mission of the library is to support the educational and research programs of the institute by providing physical and intellectual access to information, consistent with the present and the anticipated educational and research functions of the institute. In accordance with the objectives of the institute, the library aims to develop a comprehensive collection of documents useful for the faculty and the research community of the institute.

The library offers services such as Reference Services, Referral Service, User Guidance Service, Circulation Service and CDROM search services including Document Delivery Service, Weekly display of recent additions of books, Photocopy Service etc.

Collections

The library has been using the AUTOLIB an Integrated Library Management software package with all the modules for the library housekeeping operations. The library Online Catalogue database has more than 19560 records of books (Bibliographic Information) and information about 3265 back volumes of periodicals. Using AUTOLIB OPAC, users can search the Library Online Catalogue by Author, Title, Subject, and keywords. Also, the users can know the latest additions of periodicals and books and the status of a document (whether on shelf or on issue). Reservation of a book can be done Online.

  • Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC)
  • Internet Search

Circulation Rules

  • Books are issued to all eligible members as per their entitlements.
  • Loss of library books should be reported to librarian immediately.
  • A book can have maximum two renewals.
  • The reader has to check the condition of books while borrowing, in case the books are found damaged, mutilated or spoilt while returning, the reader has to replace the same as a new book.

Books are renewed if there are no reservations against the book. 

Reference Services

The Library maintains a separate reference collection consisting of encyclopedias, dictionaries, directories, handbooks, atlases, etc. Reference books are marked  “R” 

Readers may approach the Reference Desk for information or any assistance in the use of the Library Collections and Services.

The collection of the library can be accessed through OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue) from any work stations (computer terminals) available in the foundation.
