Integrated grain processing unit inaugurated at Illupur

Pudukottai, October 5, 2018: The Illuppur Agriculture Producer Company Limited (IAPCL), which is facilitated by MSSRF, celebrated its third year of operations. IAPCL conducted its Annual General Body meeting on September 25, 2018.

About 1000 people participated in this event to elect 15 new members as Board of Directors and to finalise their future plans. The company resolved to take up 3 core valued business in the next three years benefiting the farmers in the path of doubling their incomes.

On this occasion, Mr. S. Ganesh, the Pudukkottai District Collector inaugurated an integrated grain processing unit (IGPU) at Patikaadu Campus of IAPCL.  the unit has the capacity to process 4 tons/day of pulses into dhal and 2 tons/day of paddy into rice. The total investment cost is Rs. 36 lakhs, of which 20.4 lakhs is supported by Tamil Nadu government. At present, IAPCL procures the grains from farmers at a premium of 5-10 %. The new processing facility will add  value of 10 – 30 % compared to the local market price.

The Collector also pledged to set up a seed processing unit with the support of Department of Agribusiness at the cost of Rs 60 lakh. The unit is expected to enhance the quality of seeds and increase seed replacement ratio in pulses and paddy crops in the district.

Goverment officials from the Department of Agribusiness, Department of Agriculture Engineering, Department of Agriculture, Department of Animal Husbandry and Aavin Dairy participated. Faculty from the National Pulses Research Centre, Regional Veterinary Research and Education Centre and Krishi Vigyan Kendra participated in the event and appreciated the collective effort of the farmers.

IAPCL aims to enhance farmer income through collective use of technology to enhance production and value addition, and improve marketability of farm produce.

The company has initiated four enterprises for pulses, paddy, milk and country chicken value chains. Out of this effort,  commodities worth Rs. 2.34 crore were aggregated from farmers and linked with the fair market.
