Activity The Federation consists 11 Self Help Groups with 167 women members from Villages of Nembera and Balia in Kendarapara, Orissa one of the poorest state in India. The members of all the 11 SHG belong to Below Poverty Line group. Although, the women members are very enterprising. MSSRF has been working with these groups for the past 3 years. In our efforts to create an income earning opportunity for these people, in 2006 we decided to give loan of Rs.5, 28,000(from Friends of Swaminathan Australia) to the 4 members to each of the eleven groups to promote Dairy activity and tie up their marketing with the Orissa Milk Federation Society (OMFED). Presently the Society is running with quality and quantity of milk from 80 beneficiaries and daily collection of milk is more than 200 litres in two times and extra income from 44 cows is Rs. 40,150. Totally they had raised their Income from the individual dairy unit to the tune of Rs. 670,150. Members had successfully repaid the loan and also having their own cow and one calf. Due to this, there socio economic status was changed.

Now again the group proposed to start multiple enterprises (Individual dairy, Tent house, Rice mill, Pump set and grocery shop) for the remaining members from the 8 groups of the federations. The enterprises will provide an income earning opportunity for the group members; this income will help them in improving their economic status and in providing their children with better nutritious food, education and housing.
