Achyut Madhav Gokhale

Former Secretary to the Government of India Mr. Achyut Madhav Gokhale (IAS retd) is the new Executive Director of M S Swaminathan Research Foundation (MSSRF). He took charge on October 12, 2007.

Prior to this assignment, Mr Gokhale was Secretary to the Ministry of Non Conventional Energy Sources, Government of India. A 1968 batch IAS officer belonging to the Nagaland cadre, Mr Gokhale brings to the Foundation his vast expertise in institution building and biodiversity conservation at grassroots level.

He has served in various other capacities, under the Government of Nagaland, and the Government of India. For most of the 33 years service in the IAS, he explored different ways of making the idea of "peoples participation" fit into the structure of governance.

He was awarded "Padmashri" for his work on Village Development Boards and in the formation of the Jawahar Rozgar Yojana.
